How to Choose a Flexo Press for Flexible Packaging

Default to CI for multi-color stretchy film; pick colors (usually 6, 8 if white/varnish weekly), then drive by CapEx and changeovers, then usable speed matched to drying—not brochure max. Quote by width, materials (PE/BOPP/PET), and SKU mix; never drop CI for cheap stack on PE film.

Why Flexible Packaging Usually Means CI Flexo

Flexible packaging webs — especially PE and thin BOPP — stretch under tension and heat. Central impression keeps the web on one drum while colors print, which is why CI is the default architecture for multi-color film converting. Stack can still appear on paper or simpler jobs; gravure may win ultra-long stable SKUs — CI vs gravure.

Beginner map: what is a CI flexo press.

Budget Bands for Flexible Packaging Presses

Band Spec shape
Low Gear-driven CI · 4–6 colors · honest usable speed · do not drop CI for cheap stack on PE film
Medium 6-color CI · servo (or gearless if SKUs churn) · dryers matched to usable m/min
High 8-color gearless CI · auto-register · drying/register packages sized for thin film waste control

Materials — PE / BOPP / PET / Laminates

  • PE bags / film — CI + tension discipline. PE guide
  • BOPP snack / retail — CI + heat/drying. BOPP guide
  • PET / laminates — CI common; RFQ must state gauge and ink system
  • Paper cups / non-woven — different web physics; see application hub cups / film / non-woven

Colors for Packaging Artwork

Count separations on the worst recurring SKU. Process + limited spots → 6-color CI is the mainstream flexible-packaging workhorse. White, varnish or brand spots weekly → 8. Idle stations still cost CapEx and dryer load.

Flexible Packaging Scenarios

A — PE shopping / garbage bags, CapEx first: Gear-driven 6-color CI. 6-color CI →

B — Film · 1000–1300 mm · ~350 usable: King-class CI (≤350). Match drying before chasing brochure max.

C — Premium pouches, white/varnish, mixed SKUs: 8-color full servo gearless CI. 8-color gearless →

D — Ultra-long stable SKUs only: Re-check gravure economics before over-specifying gearless CI.

RFQ Checklist

  • End use (bags / pouches / laminates) · substrate + gauge · max web width
  • Architecture: CI required? · colors · usable m/min · ink · changeovers/week
  • Drive band · drying / register scope · like-for-like quote rule

FAQ

Is CI flexo suitable for flexible packaging?

Yes — it is a primary process for PE, BOPP, PET and CPP film packaging when multi-color register and usable speed matter.

Why this machine

King Series

Based on your profile: Flexible packaging · Film, BOPP, PET, PE · 1000–1300mm · 350m/min

servo gear CI flexo
Process match

King Series is the strongest fit for Flexible packaging because Best fit when the plant runs high-speed film jobs and needs reliable register control, fast ramp-up, and strong production stability. At your target speed of 350m/min, this platform keeps register stable, startup waste low, and changeovers practical for repeat jobs.

Material fit

You selected Film, BOPP, PET, PE. King Series is engineered for thin film, BOPP, PET, PE. Core substrate window: thin film, BOPP, PET, PE. This reduces tension surprises and ink-transfer issues on your primary material.

Production envelope

Width target 1000–1300mm and speed 350m/min sit inside the King Series envelope (1000-1300mm, 300m/min). Budget Mid to high range and High automation align with very high-automation workflows at this output level.

Strengths & tradeoffs

Key advantages: Servo gear precision; low startup waste; strong register at speed. Tradeoff to confirm: Higher initial investment than Master or Honor, and not the primary choice for FFS heavy-duty sacks. If your mix shifts toward ultra-thin film at 400–500 m/min, compare with another LISHG line before finalizing.
